Denver, N.C. (23 June, 2017) – Having claimed the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar and Tequila Patron North American Endurance Championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016, Action Express Racing has a history of robust celebrations.
This year, as the United States of America prepares to celebrate July 4th and the birth of this great nation, Action Express Racing will add to those tributes with two compelling custom liveries, set to debut at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen next weekend.
The No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac will incorporate a vibrant red, white, and blue livery as the Stars and Stripes have been integrated into the flowing lines of the Cadillac DPi -V.R co-driven by 2016 IMSA champions Dane Cameron and Eric Curran. The duo will look to score some new hardware as the team races in the same region where Whelen started.
Founded in 1952 by George W Whelen in his garage in Deep River, Connecticut, Whelen now encompasses two state-of-the-art facilities in Connecticut and New Hampshire.
“The Stars and Stripes livery on the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac looks outstanding, and we are looking forward to seeing it in action at Watkins Glen next weekend,” said Peter Tiezzi, Whelen Motorsports Coordinator. “We are very proud of our American-made products and to have the opportunity to represent our country with this new paint scheme for the next two IMSA events.“
Still echoing the corporate colors but with an all new scheme, the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac will also incorporate a patriotic livery for the Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park rounds of IMSA WeatherTech competition.
With a bold “We the People” along the sides of the cockpit that will be shared by Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi, the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R will feature a range of iconic American visuals on the car.
The design, which includes scores of images including renderings of Mount Rushmore, The Liberty Bell, an F14 Tomcat, and the American Constitution was initiated by Mustang Sampling’s team, which is led by Ken and Brenda Thompson. The ideas and images were then developed and brought to life in coordination with Vomela Transportation’s Michael Rompf.
At Mustang Sampling, which has established itself as a leading provider of measurement and control of analytically accurate solutions to the energy industry, the livery demonstrates key moments and ideas as the United States prepares for another birthday this year.
“We were talking about what we could do for the 4th of July, and we kept hitting on these images that are so central to what we identify as being important to our American heritage—like the Bald Eagle and the Americans being on the moon,” said Thompson. “So we are thrilled with how this came together and are very proud to be a part of this with Action Express. The car looks fantastic, and hopefully we can see it up on top again.”
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen will open with practice on June 30, with the race set for July 2nd.
